i have a hamster that is a girl and before i owned her she was running around loose in a rental house and then my worker found her and kept her in a glass box with no bedding splashes of water everywhere and VERY LITTLE HUMAN food.now i have her and cleaned her cage yesturday and i noticed she has been scratching akot and she has fur loss under her and towards and on her legs.(she has fur on her legs) and im really worried.what is wrong!?

Answer:

Hi there,

Thanks for your question and sorry to hear about this little hamster! Given she has been running loose - it is quite likely she has mites! Mites seem to be relatively common in Hamsters and she will need treatment if this is the case. There are many other possibilities, however this is the most likely given her history.

For a very good article on Hamster Dermatitis go here: http://www.britishha[...]/dermatitis.htm

You will need to get treatment for this little one. Have a chat with your local Vet or pet store to see if you can try a mite treatment. If she is still not much better after the full course of treatment, you will need to get her seen by a Vet.

Best of luck and keep us posted!
